10/20/2025 AWS Outage Affecting Canvas, AU Access, and Other AU Resources


10:25 AM CT Update, 10/21/2025: At this time, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has not provided any additional updates following yesterday’s service restoration. OIT continues to monitor Auburn systems closely, and most services, including Canvas, are operating normally. While we remain cautious as AWS monitors for stability, no further widespread issues have been reported. You can follow AWS’s official service updates at https://health.aws.amazon.com/health/status. OIT will continue to track system performance and share updates if conditions change.

7:05 PM CT Update, 10/20/2025: Amazon Web Services (AWS) has reported that services in the affected region have been restored, and most Auburn systems are now operating normally. However, some services may continue to experience intermittent performance issues as AWS monitors for stability and completes post-event recovery. OIT will continue to follow the situation and details.

6:30 PM CT Update, 10/20/2025: Auburn University's instance of Canvas is back up. Instructure is continuing to monitor for stability. Amazon Web Services (AWS) indicates the outage has been resolved as various systems continue to restore.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) experienced a significant outage beginning around 2:11 a.m. on Monday, October 20. The disruption has affected several major cloud platforms and applications that depend on AWS for hosting and connectivity.
