Auburn University is introducing DesignPlus in Canvas to help faculty create visually engaging, accessible, and well-structured course content. This rollout is part of our ongoing commitment to improving the teaching and learning experience.
What is DesignPlus?
DesignPlus is a suite of tools that enhances Canvas course design by:
- Improving visual layout and navigation
- Supporting ADA-compliant content creation
- Streamlining workflows for instructors
Why It Matters
DesignPlus empowers faculty to:
- Build professional-looking courses without advanced technical skills
- Ensure accessibility for all learners
- Save time with reusable design elements
Rollout Details
- Phase 1: DesignPlus is enabled in Canvas for all instructors
- Phase 2: A new Canvas course template will be available through Canvas Commons soon
Getting Started
- DesignPlus is available anywhere the Rich Content Editor is open
- To access DesignPlus when editing content, click the rocket ship icon in the top-right corner
- If the rocket ship is not visible, use the keyboard shortcut Alt+Shift+D to bring it into visibility
- Clicking the Rocket Ship will open up the DesignPlus Sidebar:
- To seek help, you may navigate to the question mark icon in the sidebar menu

Q: Do I need to install anything?
A: No. DesignPlus will be available directly in Canvas.
Q: Will my existing courses be affected?
A: No changes will occur automatically. You can choose to apply DesignPlus features or not use any of the functionality.
