To change your preferred first name, nickname, or personal pronoun in the University Administrative Systems, visit this link: change preferred name and personal pronoun. Instructions can also be found at aub.ie/preferredname.
To change your legal name in the University Administrative System, requests must be made in person at the appropriate office based on the information below. If you are both an AU student and an AU employee, you will only need to visit one office.
Legal Name Change for AU Students:
- Currently enrolled students who wish to change their names do so within the Office of the Registrar. The Name Change Form is provided for the student wishing to make the change. To process the change, the University requires a copy of the legal document declaring the change to be provided. Legal documents include marriage license, divorce decrees, and court orders.
- To change your name prior to freshmen or transfer orientation (prior to registration for your first term), please call 334-844-6429.

Legal Name Change for AU/AUM Employees:
- To change your name on your personnel and payroll records, complete the Request for Employee Legal Name Change Form. Please reach out to AU Human Resources for additional assistance related to the employee name change form.
A new Social Security card can be obtained through your local Social Security Administration Office. Social Security Online allows you to update your Social Security Card information.
