Important: Auburn University uses the LTI Wizard (LTI integration) for all ProctorU exams. The ProctorU browser extension should not be used to set up any ProctorU exam. Exams are configured entirely within Canvas. If you don’t see ProctorU in your course menu, you may need to enable it. For help, please follow this knowledge base article on customizing course navigation.
ProctorU is Auburn University’s supported online proctoring service for remote exams. Both Record+ (automated proctoring) and Review+ (live proctor review) exams are now configured using the same process through the ProctorU LTI Wizard in Canvas—no browser extension is required. This process is compatible with both Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes in Canvas. This guide walks you through selecting the correct service type, configuring exam settings, enabling resources or accommodations, and reviewing proctoring results.
Before You Begin
- Ensure the ProctorU tool is enabled in the course navigation menu.
- Confirm the quiz is published in Canvas and has availability dates set.
- Apply a time limit to the quiz that matches the intended proctoring duration.
- Set an exam window end time that falls on :00, :15, :30, or :45.
- Add a quiz password in Canvas.
Set Up a ProctorU Exam
- Open your Canvas course and click ProctorU in the course navigation.
- If prompted, click Continue to Instructor Interface. Then click Authorize to verify your account.
- Find the quiz you want to proctor and click Configure Exam to be Proctored.

Missing Exam Settings
Yellow boxes indicate that required information is missing—typically, the quiz password, time limit, or exam window.
- You cannot configure the exam until those items are added.
- The “Configure Exam to be Proctored” button will only appear once all required fields are complete in Canvas.
- Click the yellow “here” link to go directly to the Canvas quiz to fix missing settings.

For non-standard accommodations (e.g., extra breaks, screen reader compatibility), submit a request to ProctorU directly: ProctorU Accommodations Request Form.
