Using Global Protect VPN Client


This article discusses how to connect to the Global Protect VPN. Installation instructions for Global Protect VPN can be found in the related links section at the end of this article.

What is Global Protect VPN?

Global Protect is a VPN, or virtual private network, from Palo Alto Networks that creates a secure connection between a computing device and a cloud VPN gateway. This connection provides privacy and security for computing activities and allows users to access protected Auburn resources. 

Once you have downloaded and installed the Global Protect VPN Client on your computer, follow these steps to connect, or view this Instructional Video:

  1. Ensure that you are connected to the internet, either by WiFi or Ethernet cable.
  2. Search for the Global Protect application (globe icon) and open it.
  3. For portal, enter auvpn2.auburn.edu
  4. Click Connect.
  5. Enter your Auburn username (do not enter @auburn.edu) and password and click Connect.
  6. You will receive a request to authenticate using Duo.  Approve the Duo authentication request.
    1. Users can still use the call and text method to be authenticated if necessary.
    2. To receive a call, in the password field users will enter password,phone.
    3. To receive a text, in the password field users will enter password,passcode.
  7. If your computer passes the health check, you will be connected.
  8. When you have finished using the VPN, please remember to click Disconnect.

If your computer does not pass the health check and it is an Auburn University owned machine, you will need to reach out to your Departmental IT Group. Below is an example of the message you would receive if your device did not pass the VPN Health Check.
