GlobalProtect VPN Appears "Stuck" when Connecting (known issue with older MacOS Versions)

If your Mac is stuck in the "Connecting" phase (GlobalProtect spins or appears stuck connecting), you might need to adjust your macOS security settings. This is typically a known issue in older versions of macOS. Try the following steps below to enable Palo Alto as a trusted developer:

1. From the Apple menu at the top left of your taskbar, select System Preferences and Security & Privacy

2. Click the lock icon at the bottom left and enter your Mac password so that you can make changes.

3. On the General tab, under the section Allow applications downloaded from, verify that you have selected to allow applications downloaded from "App Store and identified developers.

4. Click Allow next to "System software from developer 'Palo Alto Networks' was blocked from loading."

5. Under the General Tab, look for an Allow or Open Anyway button. If you do see this button, click it.  Typically, a program will not run at all until you have allowed it, but in the case of GlobalProtect software on a Mac, it will run the software before you allow it, but it will not connect.  Once you allow the software to run, you will be prompted for your Auburn credentials, and you should receive a Duo Push.

6.Try connecting to the VPN again. If the client program remains stuck and does not attempt to reach the gateway, consider removing these folders:

7. If you are still experiencing issues connecting to the GlobalProtect VPN, contact the IT Service Desk at (334) 844-4944.
