Follow these steps to ensure your macOS laptop is ready for the semester:
Click the Apple logo in the top left corner of your screen and select System Preferences.
Click Security & Privacy.
Select the Privacy tab. In the bottom left corner of the window, click the lock icon to make changes.
Enter your OS administrator username and password, then click Unlock.
Adjust the necessary permissions for Screen Recording, Files and Folders, Microphone, Camera, and Accessibility. These permissions are typically required for screen sharing, photo/file sharing, and audio and camera use in Zoom meetings, etc.
Ensure the checkboxes are marked for the applications you are granting permissions to.
If you grant permissions while applications are open, you will be prompted to restart the application after each permission is granted. To avoid multiple restarts, grant permissions before launching the applications or do it all at once. Below is a table of permissions macOS users should grant to ensure success with apps commonly used in classroom settings at Auburn University.
Permission | Zoom | Panopto | Solstice |
---|---|---|---|
Camera | ✅ | ✅ | |
Microphone | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ (conferences) |
