Email is the official line of communication at Auburn University. For specific guidelines regarding user accounts that are eligible for email, please reference the Auburn University Eligible User Policy.

The Office of Information Technology supports Microsoft Outlook as the university's preferred email application. Enrolled students and active employees can download the Outlook app on a mobile or computer device. Click the button options below for Outlook installation instructions.

To Access Email via Outlook on the Web:

• Current students and employees should visit outlook.office.com (shortcut is aub.ie/email). Duo is required for student and employee email multi-factor authentication. Visit the Duo for Students and Employees article for Duo instructions.
• Alumni and retirees should visit outlook.office.com (shortcut is aub.ie/email). Microsoft MFA is required for alumni and retiree email multi-factor authentication. Visit the aub.ie/mfakb for Microsoft MFA instructions. Visit aub.ie/emailafterau for more information on alumni and retiree email.
• Multi-factor authentication is a requirement when connecting to Microsoft 365 resources from on or off campus.

Eligibility:

• Employees who end employment with the university without retirement status will no longer retain email access upon their last date of employment.
• Students who are actively enrolled in classes will retain email access, with a three-term grace period after their last completed term. Following the three-term grace period, students who do not graduate from the university will no longer retain email access.
• For incoming students, email accounts become active once your admissions application is accepted. If you fail to enroll for the term for which you were accepted, your account will automatically terminate.

Preferred Email Address, Alias, & Mail Forwarding:

• Auburn University offers users the ability to update their preferred email address. The preferred email address is the address that the user wants to appear in the "from" field of outgoing messages (the "reply to" address) and the address book. A user's preferred email address can be updated at aub.ie/alias.
• An Auburn University user can also establish an email alias at aub.ie/alias.
• Auburn University also offers the option of a mail forwarding entry in lieu of an email account for Affiliates, depending on the needs of the sponsoring department. Affiliates are typically sponsored by a department for a term no longer than one year. Auburn University affiliates may include visiting scholars, vendors, or contractors.  

Departmental Email Requests:

• Employees needing to request a departmental email should reach out to their Administrative Computing Coordinator. 
• Once the departmental/shared email address is established, instructions on accessing the email account can be found at aub.ie/sharedemail.
