eduroam uses strong, modern encryption and authentication standards and is more secure than most public WiFi hotspots.
When using the internet at an eduroam location, keep in mind that the local site’s security controls still apply. For example, firewall settings or access to certain services may differ from what you experience on Auburn’s campus.
1. Do not enter your eduroam credentials into a web page when trying to connect to wireless. eduroam does not use web-based logins, captive portals, or splash pages for authentication. If a network claiming to be eduroam asks you to sign in through a browser, do not continue.

3. Only connect to eduroam when it appears as a secured network. Look for the lock icon in your device's WiFi settings (see screenshot below). A lock icon indicates encryption is in use, but you should still be cautious of unexpected prompts, certificate warnings, or requests to re-enter credentials.
4. eduroam should behave consistently wherever you use it.
