Navigate to your course in Canvas and click the Simple Syllabus link. The syllabus editor will open inside your LMS.
You may also access your syllabus from your institution’s Simple Syllabus dashboard. Please ensure that third‑party cookies are enabled.
Required components display an orange outline and show “Required” in the bottom-left corner. Components with a pencil icon may also show an asterisk indicating a required field. Be sure to click Save after editing.
The Submit button will remain gray until all required components are completed. Once submitted, your syllabus may require approval before appearing in the Syllabus Library.
For best formatting results, type directly into the editor rather than pasting. Use the built‑in formatting tools for font, size, color, and spacing. Pasted content may introduce inconsistent formatting.
Some components cannot be edited at the instructor level. Administrators control which components are editable in the institutional template.
If your schedule shows outdated items, update them in your LMS. Simple Syllabus syncs daily.
If updates do not appear, the LMS connection may have been broken by a manual edit. You may be able to use the Reset feature to re-sync the schedule component.
Resetting restores the component’s content from the template, SIS, or LMS. It removes only manual edits in that component, not the entire syllabus.
Clicking Reset opens a panel where you can choose which components to reset.
These features may or may not be enabled by your administrator.
You can select term, subject, course number, and section. Click Advanced to choose specific components to import.
