Some instructors at Auburn University use ProctorU to monitor online exams. ProctorU allows students to complete exams remotely in a secure, monitored environment.
Auburn University covers the cost of two ProctorU services for students through Summer 2026:
- Record+ – Automated proctoring using AI monitoring. No scheduling required.
- Review+ – Proctor launch with a human review after the exam. Requires advance scheduling.
What You Need Before the Exam
Install the Guardian Browser
All ProctorU exams must be taken using the Guardian Browser, not your regular browser.

Create a ProctorU Account
If you’re new to ProctorU:
- Go to go.proctoru.com and click Sign Up
- Use your Auburn University email address
- Complete your profile and set your correct time zone
Know which Exam Type You are Taking?
- If your instructor required you to schedule your exam, you are using Review+ or Live+
- If your instructor did not require you to schedule anything, you are using Record+
Important: Always launch your exam through the Guardian Browser and the ProctorU Platform, not directly from Canvas.
- If you see a password prompt, you have not accessed the exam correctly.
- Close the tab and return to the ProctorU Platform to start again.
- Do not email your instructor for the password — it will be entered automatically when you follow the correct steps.
Record+ Exams
Use these instructions if your instructor did not ask you to schedule your exam.
- Open the Guardian Browser
- Log in to Canvas and go to your course
- Click the ProctorU Platform link in the course navigation
- Access the "My Sessions" page
- Search for the exact course name and exam name in the Record+ Exams section
- You must be enrolled in the course to gain access to the exam
- Click Start Session to begin the precheck process
Review+ Exams
Use these instructions if your instructor asked you to schedule your exam.
Schedule Your Exam in Advance
- Log in to your ProctorU account and visit the Scheduling page.
- Select your Term and the Exam you're taking (You can search by instructor name as well!)
- Choose the date and time you'd like to take the exam and click Schedule.
Schedule your exam as early as possible to secure your preferred time.
Take Your Exam at the Scheduled Time
- Open the Guardian Browser
- Log in to Canvas and go to your course
- Click the ProctorU Platform link in the course navigation
- In the My Sessions section, select the Scheduled Exams
- Locate your scheduled exam and verify the date and time
- Click Exam Rules to view ID or environment requirements
- At your scheduled time, click Launch Exam to begin the pre-check process
